How to add protein to pancakes
Although I’m a self diagnosed carboholic, I do realize the value of getting protein for breakfast. Not only does combining carbs with protein help you stay full for longer, it actually curbs my appetite, helping me stick to my meal plan.
So, adding protein to foods I already love was important in my weight loss journey.
How to add protein to pancakes
In order to increase the amount of protein in pancakes, there are a few things you could do:
- Add egg whites. Egg whites only deliver 17 calories, but almost 4 grams of protein.
- Add protein powder: 1 scoop of 30 grams protein powder has around 22 grams of protein.
- Purchase protein pancake mix, such as Kodiak cakes.
- Add Greek yogurt. For 2/3 cup of Greek yogurt you get 20 grams of protein.
- Add nuts and seeds. While you’ll get more calories per nut, it is a great source of protein.
- Add peanut butter powder. I love peanut butter powder for being low in calories, and still a good source of protein.
So, with all those protein add-in ideas, I used three of them for this peanut butter pancake recipe!
- Protein powder (I’ve used both Clean Simple Eats and I’ve used vanilla Optimum Nutrition)
- Peanut butter powder (I used PBFit)
- and egg whites!
Then, I used a mashed banana to mix it all together.
Make it a meal!
*Update November 2022. I’m adding this recipe to my latest meal plan, and I modified it to use Clean Simple Eats protein powder (which is important because the calories and macros are different), and I calculated it as a whole meal, eating the full batch and topping with peanut butter.
That calculated the calories and macros to 344 calories, 38 g protein, 28 g carbs, 10 g fat. It’s seriously so good!

looks tasty and easy. calorie count is wrong due to protein powder having 120c in itself.
the serving size is 4 pancakes. So one scoop of protein powder is for 4- meaning each pancake only has 25 ish calories from the protein powder
