Tastiest Low Calorie Cereals You Can Buy at the Store

| | | | |

My favorite cereals that are all under 150 calories per cup!

Growing up, I always envied those kids whose parents actually bought Cap’n Crunch and Fruit Loops. I didn’t understand what was so wrong with starting my day with a bowl of sugary cereal.

I’ve come to understand that my body feels a lot better when I fill it with nutritious foods.

Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy the occasional bowl of “sugar cereal”, but I try to focus on tasty, low calorie, but filling options instead!

Also, just note that here I am only counting the calories of the cereal itself. I don’t often eat cereal plain (and you probably don’t either), but I thought it might be ineffective to factor in the calorie count for milk or yogurt since not everyone drinks the same amount or type of milk with their cereal.

When it comes to cereal, most of the lowest calorie options have little to no added flavoring. This means that they are great for people who enjoy very simple flavors, but can feel very bland to others. If you’re a fan of plain cheerios, and similar cereals, check out this list by Wide Open Eats.

For this list, I wanted to gather low calorie cereal options that are also enjoyable. They have varying amounts of sugar and carbs, but all cereals included in this list are 150 calories or fewer. That way you can eat healthier, but not feel like you’re restricting yourself to only eating “healthy food”. It’s a win win for sure!

Low Calorie Cereals List

Multigrain Cheerios (110 calories) If you want something simple with a touch of sweetness, these are the perfect option for you. One cup of these is just 110 calories! And the good news is that other cheerios flavors also contain low calorie counts. Honey nut, Blueberry, and Chocolate are a few flavors that contain 140 or fewer calories per cup!

Honey Nut Chex (120 calories) Of course you could try one of the plain rice, wheat, or corn Chex varieties and add in some coconut, nuts, or berries. However, if you’d like flavored cereal that is ready to eat, give this honey flavored Chex a try! One cup contains 120 calories!

Special K Red Berries (140 calories)– Wanting a fruity flavor? Have some Special K cereal with red berries. A cup of this cereal is 140 calories. Another option is the Vanilla and Almond with 150 calories per cup!

Organic Peanut Butter and Cocoa Balls (113 calories) When I have a craving for something unhealthy, I like to substitute it with a healthier option. For example, you can swap out Reese’s Puffs with these peanut butter and cocoa balls. A cup has just 113 calories!

Kashi GoLean (144 calories) Kashi is a brand that focuses on using little sugar and lots of nutrient packed ingredients in their products. The original GoLean flavor has just 144 calories in each cup.

Kix (110 calories) This cereal has a very mild flavor, but is well liked by many children and parents. These crispy corn puffs are lightly sweet and contain about 110 calories per cup.

Hopefully this list helps you to find a cereal that not only fits within your health goals, but also is something you can enjoy eating!
