Whether you are new to the MyPlate concept or you just feel like you need to brush up on your MyPlate knowledge, listed below are some websites that you can use for MyPlate as well as other nutrition information.
- http://www.choosemyplate.gov/ This is the USDA’s site for a wealth of MyPlate information, including detailed descriptions of the food groups, foods contained in each group, the daily recommendations for each group, and much more. It also includes printable materials and videos.
- http://www.fns.usda.gov/tn/myplate The USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service provides MyPlate information specifically geared towards kids and their parents or caregivers. Schools using the USDA’s Child Nutrition Programs may request free printed copies of some of the materials on the site. It also includes lesson plans that you can use in conjunction with the Super Healthy Kids lesson plan.
- https://www.verywell.com/seven-nutrition-tips-for-young-athletes-617326 This verywell.com article, written by one of the Super Healthy Kids co-owners, provides nutrition tips for young athletes.
- http://kidshealth.org/en/teens/eatnrun.html# This is a guide to eating for sports.
- http://www.healthyeating.org/Portals/0/Documents/Tip%20Sheets/Portion_Serving_Size_Chart_Eng. pdf This portion size guide can be used to instruct the students of how to estimate portion size for use with the food record.
