Since a majority of my energy bar recipes contain protein powder, I wanted to make a delicious snack bar that was made with some whole, clean ingredients as well to have on my blog.
And while I don’t consider these bars “low calorie”, they certainly are comparable in calories to commercial bars like a Larabar, made with similar ingredients.
So, I chose the Cherry Pie Larabar to make into a copycat bar, and make it even better!
The original Cherry Larabar simply contains: Dates, almonds and cherries. And believe me, it’s DELICIOUS!!
However, the original (commercial) bar contains 200 calories, 28 g carbs, 4 g protein, and 8 grams of fat.
My homemade cherry almond energy bar contains fewer carbs and calories. It has
- 165 calories
- 23 g carbs
- 4 g protein
- and 7 g fat
And to make these bars is simple! It only takes a few minutes.
Combine the dates, oats, chia seeds, dried cherries almond butter and almond extract in a food processor and then form into bars! If it’s a little dry or crumbly, add one or two more dates, or 1 or two more tablespoons almond butter.
You could also cut the oats in half to make them less dry. Either way, they are tasty!
