Did you know that the classic Bisquick recipe for strawberry shortcake is 410 Calories!! It’s true! This healthier remake only has 109 calories, 22 grams carbs, 6 grams protein and 2 grams fat per serving. Literally a savings of 300 calories. Or, just eat four of them. Haha!

Strawberry Shortcake Stacked 1200x1200

To start this strawberry shortcake remake, I used the Heart Smart Bisquick, instead of Original Bisquick. To be completely honest, I just had some Heart Smart Bisquick in my cupboard. I must have fallen for the healthy marketing on the box, because a complete analysis of the original Bisquick and the Heart Smart shows almost zero difference!

Nutrition for Heart Smart Bisquick vs Original Bisquick

Nutrition for 40 grams (1/3 cup) of Original Bisquick includes:

  • 150 calories
  • 3 grams protein
  • 28 grams carbohydrates
  • 3 grams fat
  • and 2 grams sugar

The ingredients are Enriched Flour Bleached (wheat flour, niacin, iron, thiamin mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid), Vegetable Oil (palm, canola and/or soybean oil), Corn Starch, Dextrose, Leavening (baking soda, sodium aluminum phosphate, monocalcium phosphate), Salt, Sugar, DATEM, Monoglycerides. Nutrition for 40 grams (1/3 cup) of Heart Smart Bisquick includes:

  • 140 calories
  • 3 grams protein
  • 27 grams carbohydrates
  • 2.5 grams fat
  • and 2 grams sugar

The ingredients are: Enriched Flour Bleached (wheat flour, niacin, iron, thiamin mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid), Vegetable Oil (soybean and/or canola oil), Leavening (baking soda, sodium aluminum phosphate, monocalcium phosphate), Dextrose, Sugar, Tricalcium Phosphate, Salt, DATEM. (source)

What the heck? Am I the only one that thinks this is misleading?

Well, it is what it is. I used Heart Smart Biquick baking mix, but feel free to use the original if you have it.

The three ingredients for the shortcake

Similar to the other two ingredient baked goods I’ve been making by combining self-rising four and Greek yogurt, this is the same idea. It’s just the baking mix and Greek yogurt, but I added some zero calorie monk sugar to sweeten it up.

I used equal parts

  • Heart Smart Bisquick (𝟏𝟒𝟎 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞s)
  • and nonfat plain Greek Yogurt (𝟓𝟎 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬)
  • And a small amount of the zero calorie sugar.

And that’s it for the shortcake! Of course, add strawberries (or another fruit) and cool whip if you wish.
