The right dressings and dips can make your veggies go from boring & lacking flavor, to your favorite afternoon snack! For the last 5 years I’ve been a superfan of the Bolthouse Ranch Dressing brand. For 25 calories per tablespoon, it not only tasted great, but I could always find it at any grocery store.

But a few weeks ago, that all changed! I may never buy a bottle of Bolthouse ranch again, because my homemade version is SO MUCH BETTER.

I don’t mean to be so dramatic, but I’ve never had a salad dressing that I wanted to lick the spoon after I stirred it. But, I was doing just that.

Not only was I licking the spoon, but I was finding every veggie in my house to dip into the homemade ranch.

Green salad with low calorie ranch dressing

Of course, my first choice is to pour this low cal ranch over a green salad. I funneled my ranch mix into an empty condiment squeeze bottle, and kept it in the fridge.

Then, for every lunch when I eat a salad, I can just squeeze the dressing over the top.

As a dip, this ranch is fantastic. I used it to dip cucumbers, cauliflower, carrots, and roasted broccoli.

homemade low calorie ranch ingredients

To make this dip, I only used 4 things:

  • Light mayonnaise
  • Nonfat Plain Greek yogurt (depending on your brand, the thickness of the salad dressing will be impacted. If you’re using the Kirkland brand, it’s quite thick, and may need more buttermilk than brands like Oikos.
  • Lowfat buttermilk- I had no clue this was only 120 calories PER CUP! Quite a bargain in calorie density for a dairy product.
  • And then finally, I used a ranch dip mix. But, you can also use your own seasonings. You would want to use:
    • onion powder
    • garlic powder
    • celery salt
    • green onion,
    • parsley, or other preferred herbs
