Can you really call something a recipe if there is only 1 ingredient? Because these Parmesan crisps only have ONE INGREDIENT! You guessed it. Parmesan cheese.
So, we bought some Parmesan whisps at Costco recently for the first time. My husband and I were immediately in love with them. So delicious, salty, cheesy, crispy.
But I had two problems with the Costco Parmesan Whisps:
- They aren’t cheap! It’s true. These little crackers cost an arm and a leg for what they are.
- There are too many! You give me a Costco size bag of something delicious, and I usually can’t stop eating them. {read my portion control popcorn experiment here}
So, what do I always do when I can’t practice portion control over a certain snack? I find a way to only have access to ONE SERVING! If I can buy pre-packaged single servings snacks, I usually will. Otherwise, I try to recreate the recipe for only one serving. Which is what my portion control solution was for these parmesan crispy crackers.

How do you make parmesan crisps?
All I did was place a pile of parmesan cheese onto some parchment paper and microwaved for 1 minute! THAT’S ALL!!
Because the Parmesan cheese worked so well, I actually tried to make an ASSORTMENT of cheese crackers. I tried all my fat free cheeses, and even regular cheese. But in the end, Parmesan turned out the best, which is what I started with in the first place.

I also tried to use Wax paper instead of parchment paper. This also did not work!
So, if you are going to give this a go, stick with the Parmesan on Parchment paper, as it turned out perfect, Every. Single. Time.

No need for parchment paper, just put them on a microwaveable plate or bowl
great idea!
Wow. Thankyou, I live in Australia and packets of Parmesan crisps are about $12. I couldn’t believe that this would match up to the taste and texture, but it did! Next I will try to put some flavours in them. Thanks ☺️
Glad it worked for you!
Can I bake them in a regular toaster oven?
I’m confident this would work! If you try it, let me know how it goes!
I used to love to put potato chips on my cheese sandwich. I made and used these instead. Heavenly crunch! Thanks

Does Parmesan in a bottle like kraft work as well?
I dont think it will work, but I haven’t tried it!
I’ve made them in the oven before, but not the microwave. I’ll never go back!! This was an awesome recipe! I love to dip them in tomato soup!
I’m so glad it worked for you… I NEED to dip them in soup!!
oh my!! I have no idea why there is applesauce in that picture! No one has ever noticed. I did not use applesauce in the recipe!
I made these at home and loved them. I’m on vacation with girlfriends and made some. Last night I had to go to the store and get more Parmesan! They can’t get enough!
Thanks for the recipe!
